Stop, Slide, and do a Rollback! There's another reining show at the Great Southwest Equestrian Center, The Great Pumpkin Slide, the weekend of October 27-29, 2023. The weather should be perfect (at least in the 80's haha) and STRHA has approved the show for year end awards.
Here are some important details:
(b)(i) if the judge(s) determines paint or other substance has been applied to a horse to disguise abuse
he/she may call a no score. Excessive use of paint or color substance may result in a no score.
(j) In any approved class, the judge shall have the authority to require the removal or alteration of any
piece of equipment or accoutrement which is unsafe, or in his/her opinion, would tend to give a horse an
unfair advantage or which he/she believes to be inhumane
So, no costumes and no horse painting if you are riding for a score. Stall decorations are OK. I hear that there will be swag give-aways. Come join the fun as we finish up our show season at GSWEC. Please reach out if you have any questions or need assistance. It's going to be a fun weekend and a great way to finish the reining year.
Here are some important details:
- The GSWEC website has been updated with the show schedule, entry form, and trainer split sheet.
- There has been a class schedule change - Open classes have been moved to Saturday after the Ladies/Mens morning classes. Novice Horse Open classes have been moved to Friday after the Ladies/Mens morning classes. The forms reflect that change.
- The facility continues to highlight horse safety with precautionary health requirements. Those requirements are listed on the show schedule.
- We have a new announcer joining us at the October show - Randy Tempkin from Anthony, Florida. Randy has been announcing horse shows for more years than he'll admit and loves announcing Reining shows. Many of you will recognize his voice once he starts talking.
- There is much excitement about this show. Stall decorations with Halloween themes are anticipated. Let me know as soon as possible about paid warm-ups, stall and shaving reservations, and Ladies/Mens entries.
- Several exhibitors reached out asking if costumes and horse painting would be permissible while competing at the October show. NRHA has informed us that costumes and extra accessories are only allowed in Freestyle Reining. As stated in the Handbook under Rules For Judging-
